Available options for PlaneShift on LinuxPackaged ReleaseThis is a package of pre-built binaries and artwork that you download and run right away. It will be built on Fedora with gcc 3.4 and glibc 2.3.3 for both x86 and amd64. For this package the updater will support full updating of the binaries and artwork. When there is a release, you will just be required to run the updater to get the latest version. It's recommended to see Xordan's sticky posts in the Linux Forum
Easy PlaneShift build scriptScript by malverian. This is a script that will connect to CVS and download and build everything you need. This script also does dependency checking and has the ability to update the required source files when a new release is made ( by using the correct buildlist.cfg file ) without having to dowload all the source again or doing a full rebuild. This script will automatically get the correct date for getting the CVS source. This will not update your artwork so after you have finished building you will need to run the updater ( which should have been created ). With this method you will not be able to use your updater to get new psclient versions since they will be built by the script. You can use the updater to get new artwork and data files. Note that this is not a 100% stable script so there *might* be undiscovered problems. I tested this on my machine and it worked will and I updated and played on the server. So if this method fails for you please don't send me an email saying it doesn't work. I will need some more information about exactly where so I can make fixes. Also see the -diagnose option as well and the README.
Self Building from CVSThis is similar to the above but the details have to be done manually instead of the script taking care of them. Basically you need to use the correct dates when checking out the code. You can only use the updater to get new art and data files and you will have to rebuild your own client updates. Build guides on the left side show the main steps in how to use these dates to build your client.
Source Code Snap ShotsThese are simply snap shots of the current source that is being used. There is no scripts for building and it's up to you to configure/build/install everything. This is similiar to above without using CVS and the ability to update to new code base. There is no dependency checking either so you need to be aware of the required build tools and libraries. A build guide will be provided to give some instruction, but these should only be used by experienced people that are famliar with development. With this system, you will have to build new binaries by yourself but can use your created updater to get new artwork and data files.
